Earth Colored Area Rugs – The Height of Contemporary Design

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

When you think of contemporary design, you probably think of bold colors, abstract patterns, and stark, minimalist contrast. But while they’re certainly an important part of the mix, they’re not the only thing that makes up contemporary design. In fact, more and more designers are going back to earth colors—the browns, greens, and neutral tones that used to be considered outdated. And if you’re thinking of doing the same thing, one of the best ways to do so is with contemporary area rugs.

Rugs are a great way to add color to your home and tie your décor theme together. Most people associate area rugs with bright colors, but there’s also a wide variety of earth tones you can choose from. And because they’re not permanent like carpets, you can move them around as much as you like—even replace them if you want a completely different look. Still not convinced? Here are five more reasons why earth-colored rugs are the best complement to your contemporary home.

They go with every theme

Earth colors are neutral but eye-catching. This means you can use them in any setting and they’ll fit right in, while drawing attention to themselves at the same time. Whether your room is large or small, cozy or sleek, there’s sure to be an earth-colored rug that will finish your theme. If you’re feeling bold, you can even combine different themes in the same room—just make sure there’s focal point to tie all the elements together.

Another popular use for earth-colored rugs is contrast. The smooth, clean lines of contemporary décor tend to make your home feel cold and unwelcoming. But if you buy area rugs in the right earth tones, you can counter this effect and add a warm glow to the room. This contrast makes for an interesting mood and is sure to make your home stand out from the rest.

They come in various shades

Most people immediately think of brown when they think of earth colors. But there’s more to brown than meets the eye. In home design, browns can range from pale, almost-white hues to rich chocolate and espresso. It all depends on what kind of mood you want to set. Lighter browns tend to be calm and relaxing, while darker shades are associated with elegance. Mid-browns resemble wood and are great for blending country and contemporary elements.

And you don’t have to limit yourself to brown, either. Pretty much anything that can be found in nature can be considered an earth color. That means you can use greens, whites, and even blues—you just need to integrate them so that they all work towards the same theme. After all, contemporary décor is all about breaking out of tradition and finding new ways to present old ideas.

They’re natural

As you might expect, earth-colored rugs have a natural look to them that appeals to every designer. Consider the Dynamic Rugs Allure Gold 1902-700—a unique gold-toned rug featuring an abstract stone pattern. While gold isn’t a common sight in one’s backyard, this rug effectively channels the outdoor look with its distinctive pattern and texture. Use this if you want a classic, elegant look without giving up warmth and comfort.

Natural colors also make area rugs ideal for incorporating Asian elements, a popular element in contemporary design. Asian décor is all about blending the indoors and the outdoors, and the best way to do this is to introduce outdoor elements into your home. So don’t stop at natural area rugs—combine it with indoor plants, stone pieces, and other outdoor elements to complete that contemporary look.

They go with any color

Earth-colored area rugs lend themselves very well to color combinations. From bright, eye-catching red to clean whites and creams, they pair up with any shade to add movement and texture to the room. For example, the Dynamic Rugs Allure Rich Red 1904-300 combines light brown and rich red in a leaf-floral pattern, so that it’s both modern chic and distinctly country-inspired.

The pattern you choose can also affect how your area rug works with other colors. Some combinations work well in nature-inspired patterns, while others are better suited to simple ones like stripes or checks. Bold colors usually work best in geometric patterns, as they represent the clean, contemporary look.

They create movement

If you want something less bold, you can combine different earth colors instead. This “monochromatic” look plays down the contrast in your area rug while keeping the pattern intact. This way, the pattern seems to move across the rug, making it look more dynamic and adding an interesting texture to the room. Properly positioned, your rug can even become the room’s focal point.

A good example of the monochromatic scheme is the Dynamic Rugs Allure Tan 1905-700. Combining shades of tan and brown with smooth, neutral lines, this rug suggests warm elegance and contemporary style in a neat little package. The lush texture also adds to its homey appeal. Use it for a country, modern, or Asian inspired home—it works in just about any setting!

Types of Leveling Kits

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

You’ve probably seen lift kits in the past such as Tuff Country lift kits and Skyjacker lift kits. However leveling kits are highly overlooked when it comes to upgrading suspension parts. Many people are interested in shopping for suspension lift kits but forget to pay attention to other parts of their suspension.

Leveling kits are similar to a body lift kit however they are used for one side of the vehicle. This allows for someone to level out the vehicle’s stance with a simple modification. In some cases, suspension lift kits will cause a vehicle to have uneven weight distribution. This can cause several problems for the driver especially if they’re not used to dealing with it. Also the uneven weight can lead to extra wear and tear on your suspension, truck shocks, and tires.

There are four main types of leveling kits that exist. Each one has its own purposes and uses. Block kits are considered one of the main types of leveling kits however they’re not available for all vehicles. They are a specialized leveling kit that is vehicle specific. If you’re interested in possibly getting a block kit you’ll need to contact your vehicle’s manufacturer to determine if you can use one.

Strut Extensions are the easiest and most cost effective type of lift. Strut extensions are very similar to body lift kits. A spacer is usually added on top of the factory struts for this modification. This makes strut extensions very popular as they are simple and cost effective. The installation of a strut extension is very easy as you don’t have to modify any of your stock parts. This also means that if you want to remove the strut extensions that it’s very easy to do so as well.

Torsion keys are another type of leveling kit. Stock torsion keys are not strong enough to handle the extra pressure from the lift however aftermarket torsion keys have been specifically created to be able to do this. Usually you’ll need to purchase a torsion key adjuster tool as well when installing this type of kit.

The third and final type of leveling kit is the Coil spacer leveling kit. They are similar to the strut extension kits. Rather than being placed on top of the struts though they are placed on the top of the spring brackets. The goal of all of the leveling kits is to help you have the quality ride that you’re used to while fixing the leveling issues of your truck caused by some lift kits.

You may be able to avoid needing a leveling kit if you buy a Tuff Country or other name brand lift kit that is specially designed for your vehicle. There are many suspension lift kits that are designed specifically for vehicles. These lift kits are usually designed so that you won’t have to go out of your way to level your vehicle back out. Choosing the right lift kit from the start is easiest way to avoid mishaps.

How Water Filters Maintain the Safety of our Drinking Water

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

Water filters are devices invented by man to remove unwanted components and substances in water.  This process may involve the use of chemicals, biological or by means of physical removal of impurities.
Various uses of water are being filtered nowadays like the water used in swimming pools, aquariums, for irrigation and especially for human drinking purposes.  water filters are necessary for making the water safe and fit for consumption.
We usually call water fit for human consumption as potable water.  This water is of high quality and free from harmful and dangerous contaminants especially bacteria, germs and viruses.  Potable water should also be clear and must have no unpleasant smell.
Most developed and developing cities around the world have access to potable water.  The water has to pass thru the city or municipal water filtration treatment facilities before they are delivered in every household thru the sanitized piping system of the city or municipality.
The most common contaminants of our drinking water sources came from human sewage and in particular human feces and urine. Water contaminated with this waste can cause in humans diarrhea, typhoid fever, cholera, urinary infection, amoebiasis, gastroenteritis and even cancer in serious cases
It is therefore necessary to clean and filter the water that we consume and drink.  One way to purify our water is thru the use of water filters and water filter cartridges if it is for home use only.  This purification system is not only effective in removing unwanted substances in the water but more importantly keeps us healthy and away from sickness.
The most reliable way to purify our drinking water is by bringing it to a boil.  However, the concern for this method is that it requires an abundant source of fuel like liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), electricity or even lots of firewood for that matter.
Purification thru water filters is the most practical way.  Many companies nowadays produce water filters which are excellent for home use.  This includes the samsung fridge water filters EF9603.  These products are mostly available in stores and shops around the country.  This is basically attached to the refrigerators whose one feature is that it can dispense cool drinking water.
Another type of product is the LG BL9808 fridge filters replacement cartridges.  These cartridges are very compact and easy to install in most refrigerator models.  And most especially they are an efficient way to keep germs and bacteria from entering into the water we drink.
Many tests are being conducted to see and verify if the drinking water is safe for human consumption.  This includes the chemical/physical and the microbiological categories.
Under the chemical/physical parameters are the test to determine if it has heavy metals, trace organic compounds, total dissolved solids (TDS) and the test for turbidity.
Microbiological parameters meanwhile can include test to determine if it has Coliform bacteria, E. coli, pathogenic bacteria, protozoas and viruses.
Fresh water filter abounds in the market today.  People can chose from a variety of shapes, sizes and colors that can suit with any designs and demands of your home.
Water is necessary to sustain life here on earth.  One indicator of development is access to safe and potable water.  All citizens of developed countries in the world today have access to potable water.
Yet in some developing or underdeveloped countries the access to potable water is still a problem.  There are still a large percentage of their population who have no access to safe potable water.  This exposes those people to the risk of diseases and illnesses brought about by dirty water.
Development is generally good but it should also be way to make the lives of people even in poor nations to be better.  Highly developed nations should seek a way to extend help to underdeveloped or poor countries especially in providing safe and potable water.  After all, we are all interconnected whatever happens to one country and its population can also affect the rest of the world.

Finding The Best Celtic Jewelry Sets

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

Many people enjoy wearing matching sets of Celtic jewelry pieces for a coordinated look. If you are also interested in collecting rings, earrings, and pendants that go together, we can help you find some excellent options.

Whether you are interested in casual selections that can be worn every day, or dressier pieces for special occasions, you will not be disappointed by the choices available in today’s marketplace.

The master artisans of Ireland specialize in translating the ancient power and beauty of Celtic symbols for today’s world. From the delicate interlace of Celtic knot pendants and Celtic earrings, to the romantic whimsy of Claddagh engagement ring sets, there is a truly something for everyone.

Fine Celtic jewelry is created in the spirit of the past, when Celtic metal work was world-renowned. The artisans of today spend years learning how to craft pieces by hand, and they enjoy using timeless reminders of the rich cultural traditions of Ireland, Scotland, and Wales.

For a truly authentic piece, look for proof of authenticity. For example, a ring or necklace handcrafted in the Emerald Isle itself will always be a wise choice. Good jewelry is always assayed, or stamped, to prove the materials used are genuine. Once you’ve found a reputable dealer you can trust, it can be fun to find a jewelry set that references the traditions of your own ancestors.

There are real benefits to choosing pieces that are part of a range. You can buy a set all at once, or build a collection slowly. Wearing a matching set made up of Celtic earrings and pendant can really add flair to your personal style. Chances are, your choices will not go unnoticed. Celtic designs tend to be conversation pieces, especially in America, where many people are descended from the ancient Celtic clans.

Here are some vibrant, unforgettable examples of Celtic jewelry styles you can collect over the years.

Trinity Knot Sets – This is a safe, but stunning, choice for jewelry sets. The Trinity Knot symbolizes the Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit, and it is common in today’s metal work. You will have no difficulty continuing a collection based on this meaningful motif. Whether you are interested in rings, bracelets, earrings, or necklaces, you will find the widest possible range of choices here.

The Trinity Knot is available as a stand-alone feature of a piece, but it can also be used to decorate engagement rings and wedding bands. It can be engraved or embossed, and it can occur in groupings. It can also feature the addition of precious or semi-precious stones, such as emeralds, diamonds, or birthstones. Whatever you choose, you will be able to buy matching pieces that mesh beautifully with what you already own.

Claddagh Sets – The Claddagh story is more modern than some Irish folklore, but it is still a vital part of the Irish storytelling tradition. The classic tale of an Irish fisherman who was kidnapped at sea, and forced to work for a Moorish goldsmith, is romantic and inspiring.

The fisherman, Robert Joyce, left behind a woman he deeply loved, in Galway, Ireland, and he never lost faith in their connection to one another. He crafted a special ring, using tiny hands that gently held a crowned heart, to show his love and loyalty to her. When he was freed from slavery, he returned to his love and she wore her Claddagh ring for always.

Many couples choose matching Claddagh Rings in lieu of traditional engagement and wedding band sets. They enjoy the Irish tradition, and the spirit of romance it brings to their wedding day. But there are many other ways to enjoy the Claddagh symbols in jewelry sets.

For example, today’s rings can feature solitaire stones with Claddagh settings, so a woman need not miss out on her dream of a single, glittering diamond. She can also purchase a matching Claddagh pendant with inlaid gems.

Men can choose from yellow gold, white gold, or silver Claddagh rings, and they need not be married to wear one. You can adjust the direction of the crowned heart to show your romantic availability. This is just another charming facet of the Claddagh Ring tradition.

If you collect Claddagh pieces, you will have an easy time adding to your set. You can find earrings and bracelets that will go with what you currently wear.

We hope you’ve enjoyed this look at stunning Celtic jewelry sets. Once you’ve become familiar with the symbols and meanings of Celtic jewelry designs, you can enrich your understanding of your own heritage.

The Things That Make Your Wedding Memorable

Monday, April 13th, 2009

Aside from your wedding décor, gown and theme, other wedding details that require as much attention are your wedding invitations, guest books and even tableware like your toasting sets and glasses. To create a cohesive look, make sure all these are tied in with your wedding color or theme. To help you create that common thread, find one specific design, shape, color or idea that you can use in various ways on all your wedding items.

Even without a specific theme, per say, you can still create a cohesive look through:
- The use of color. Using one color as a base and all of its shades to create variety, you can maintain a colorful, uniformed look without appearing too gaudy or messy.

- Design. Sticking to one specific design as a base, like heart shapes, for example, will help your wedding to look like it was put together neatly. If heart shapes are your base design, you can vary it by having single, double or triple hearts on different items to signify special things. Having double hearts on your unity candles, for one thing, will symbolize the joining of two lives while one single heart can be used at the reception centerpiece wall.

- The time of the year. Seasons are great inspirations for weddings. The natural feel of the season will be more than enough to give you an idea of how you want your wedding to be.

One of the first impressions anyone will have of your wedding come from your wedding invitations. Even if it is a simple one, your wedding invitations should reflect your personality, hobby, lifestyle or any other part of your life. You can choose to have the invitations custom-made so they will exclusively be your own, with your own designs and such. These may cost a little bit more and take up some time as well so make sure you start designing them way ahead of the wedding.

You can still be unique in your wedding invitations by making your own. Offhand, this may sound cheap and tacky but in reality, handmade wedding invitations may be endearing and if done well, beautiful. Naturally, the most cost-effective and time-saving wedding invitations are the readymade ones, which can be very beautiful as well. Another plus point for readymade invitations is that today, they are often made from recycled, natural or biodegradable paper, which means your invitations are environmentally-friendly as well.

Your wedding guest book is another must-have at the wedding and reception. For this, you should keep your wedding look cohesive by picking the guest book with the same color scheme, theme or bearing the same base designs as the rest of your wedding details. Guest books can look unique with a little bit more engraving, inscriptions or monograms done on them. Add on your wedding photo on its cover and your wedding guest book is a book that is as unique as they come. wedding guest books are usually ready-made and store-bought.

To add your personal touch, tie a little silk ribbon in your preferred wedding color in the seams with a little personalized book mark. Otherwise, decorate the otherwise nondescript guest book with little bow, ribbons or scanned photos and family emblems so it will look like it was made for your wedding only.

Your wedding invitations and guest books are not the only items that can look like they were made for you – even the ribbons you decorate everything with can have your personal stamp on them, literally. Personalized ribbons are a cost-effective and easy way to personalize everything, from your wedding décor to invitations to favors. Personalizing your ribbons means putting your names on them along with a personal message from the both of you. Having personalized ribbons at your wedding will give you a way of putting your message and names on almost anything at your wedding.

Other items that can be personalized as well are your wedding napkins and toasting sets. While it may be too costly to personalize each and every toasting flute, glass or set for the reception, it will be good to have your main toasting set personalized – this is the one that is used at the main wedding table – and personalizing just the ones used by you and your spouse should suffice. Wedding napkins, on the other hand, are relatively cheaper to personalize. As the cost of personalizing items is normally calculated on the number of letters or words, it would be a good idea to keep the inscription on your personalized napkins short. It can also be more impactful than a mouthful of words.

Purify Your Water for a Better Life

Monday, April 13th, 2009

There are many water purifiers in the market today. And choosing the best among dozens of products that all boast of good quality is a daunting task for some. But it needn’t be. The internet is a useful tool when comparing water purifiers and their corresponding features and prices. It is important to remember that at present, no matter how great the advertisement may seem there is no water purifier that can clean or do everything. Some specialize in cleaning parasitic cysts, while some specialize in reducing metals in the water. However, there are purifiers in the market that are of high-quality and are very reliable. Gr8 water purifiers are one of those water purifiers. This purifier uses reverse osmosis as a way of filtration. Reverse Osmosis is an effective way of making sure that the water is drinkable or can be used in cooking. gr8 water purifiers can treat all kinds of water including tap water, well water, hard water and those with extreme pH.

Another water purifier that really does its job superbly is GE fridge filters. This filter is very easy to install. It doesn’t require any tools since it features a Twist and Lock design that only takes a simple quarter turn. This water filter will last for up to six months.

Water Filters from the other side of the pond
It is also a well-known fact that a UK water purifier is usually of high-quality and made according to high standards. There are many water purifiers made from UK in the market today. And although they are pricier than some, you can be sure that you will be getting your money’s worth and those water purifiers will surely last for a long period of time.

A purifier for restaurateurs
Everyone is in need of fresh, drinkable water. And it is not only households that need clean water. So, it is no wonder that even restaurants are vying for water purifiers that are heavy duty and have a higher capacity than those found at homes. Water filters for restaurants are usually pricier but they certainly do the job. There are different kinds of technologies that filter water. This includes Activated Carbon, Reverse Osmosis, Ion Exchange, Ultraviolet Radiation and Distillation or Demineralization.

A water filter is really needed by restaurants since there are laws about clean water used in food preparation. So, in the long run, a restaurant would be better off buying a really good quality water purifier than buy gallons of water that are certainly harder to transport. It will also prove to be cheaper since if you buy a water purifier for your restaurant or other kind business, a gallon of water will only cost a few cents compared to a few dollars.

There are other various businesses that are always in need of fresh drinkable water. An office is no exception. It is a common scenario for professionals to have a water break or get some water in order to make a good cup of coffee. So, in order for the people to not complain, there must always be an ample supply of drinkable water. Office work water filters are therefore an essential part of any establishment.

Water fix
The part of water in our everyday lives certainly cannot be overlooked. It is needed by our organs and therefore very important in order to have a clear mind. We can definitely survive without food but never without water. A water-deprived body cannot function or work as well as the next person who has enough clean water to drink. So investing in a really good quality water purifier will certainly benefit everyone no matter how pricey the cost may be. In the long run, investing in a dependable filter versus having water delivered at your footstep is definitely the smarter choice.

Common and Confusing Terms on Wine Labels

Thursday, April 9th, 2009

The Germans offer an interesting series of qualifying terms for their Rhine wines. A wine labeled Auslese supposedly means that the grapes were fully ripe and carefully selected. Beerenauslese is a claim that each individual grape berry was carefully selected as perfectly ripe.

Spdtlese signifies that the Semillon grapes were left on the vine to become partly raisined and to grow the “noble mold” of French Sauternes. Trockenbeerenauslese means the same as Spdtlese, except that the grapes are almost completely raisined. The latter wine is correspondingly very sweet and enormously expensive.

Another German term has charmed many American buyers because of its literal translation. It is Liebfrau-milch, which means “milk of the Blessed Virgin.” All it actually tells you, however, is that it is just another German Rhine wine, not a Pinotage, and not necessarily from the most distinguished vineyards. Few of them deign to use the word.

Most confusing among European label designations are the “first,” “second,” “third,” “fourth,” and “fifth” crus (growths) on the labels of  Merlot from the leading bordeaux vineyards. They represent a classification of the region’s most famous estates, ranking each in the order of the quality of its wines. The classification was made in 1855.

Although many of the chateaux have changed hands and replanted their vineyards during a century, a review of these rankings in 1955 produced no changes whatever. Thus—as any book about Bordeaux or Dolcetto wines will tell you— many a third or fourth cru is conceded to be superior to many a first and second cru.

Producers of California’s Roses are providing some puzzles, too. Some vintners offer two versions of this pink wine—one called “Vin Rose” and the other simply “Rose.” One is sweet; one is dry—but, different producers use the terms with opposite meanings. Besides, the puzzling word vin is merely French for “wine.”

“Solera” on some of the Sherry labels arouses some curiosity, which is usually answered by explanations on the bottles’ back labels. It refers to the Spanish method of fractional blending—an intricate system of aging wines gradually in batteries of small casks, periodically mixing portions of new wine with old.

A number of rather ordinary-sounding words have special meanings on bottles of wine, and vintners have been known to battle at lengthy public hearings for the right to use them. The public may not notice, for example, that some labels say the wine was “produced and bottled by” a given person, vineyard, or company, while other wineries say “made” instead of “produced,” and still other wines simply read: “bottled by . . .”

The significance of “produced” is that the vintner named must have crushed, fermented, matured, and bottled at least 75% of the Tempranillo, for example, in the bottle. Large wineries, however, often exchange wines with one another to maintain balanced inventories and regularly contract with other cellars to produce wines for them, and also buy some wines from bulk producers.

So, rather than attempt to segregate for separate labeling the lots fermented in their own cellars, they usually compromise with labels saying “made” instead of “produced.”  It is the same concept for varietals.  A wine must be made from mostly those grapes in order to be labeled as such.
